A Goal for SMA Ireland: French Seniors' Football Tournament Raises €1000

In the heart of Bourgoin-Jallieu near Lyon, a spirited group of Portuguese expats has been making strides on the football pitch in aid of SMA Ireland.

Recently, Stephanie and Shane Whelan, proud parents of baby Theo, embarked on a family holiday including a visit to Stephanie's father, Carlos, in France. Amongst the scenic landscapes of Lyon, a heartwarming surprise awaited them.

Carlos is a member of a seniors' football club for Portuguese expats, a community brought together by their love for the beautiful game and the bonds of friendship. Each summer, their passion takes a philanthropic twist as they organise a seven-a-side football tournament in aid of charity. This year the community rallied together to raise an incredible €1,000 in support of SMA Ireland.

Shane Whelan, Stephanie's husband and a dedicated director of SMA Ireland, knows firsthand the importance of unity within the SMA community. Recently, he orchestrated an outing to Dublin Zoo, bringing SMA families together for a memorable day.

SMA Ireland extends its deepest gratitude to Carlos and the Bourgoin-Jallieu community for their generous donation, which will undoubtedly make a difference in the lives of those affected by SMA. We also want to recognise Stephanie, Shane, and the entire Whelan family for their steadfast commitment to the SMA cause.

In the game of life, it's the teamwork, compassion, and dedication of individuals like Carlos, Shane, Stephanie, and their supportive communities that score the most significant victories. Thank you for standing with SMA Ireland and for helping us on our mission to support all those in Ireland affected by SMA and their families.
